There is nothing quite like seeing the Isles of Scilly from above… from the turquoise blue waters to the tranquil islands themselves… flying by Skybus into the archipelago is an experience to remember.
From today, 1st April, passengers can again enjoy this stunning route from Newquay, with our Skybus flights starting for the 2024 spring/summer season. With the route offering dog friendly travel, a journey time of just 30 minutes, and unforgettable views of both Cornwall and the islands themselves, it is a stunning and hassle-free way to start your holiday.
Though Skybus operate flights to the islands year-round from Land’s End Airport, both our Newquay and Exeter routes have now resumed ready in time for the summer. With flights from Newquay resuming, it makes the enchanting islands that much easier to get to.
Amy Smith, Head of Commercial, Cornwall Airport Newquay said “we’re thrilled to welcome Skybus back, reconnecting our passengers with the beautiful Isles of Scilly. As the oldest route on our network, this reinstatement not only symbolises a continued partnership but also shows our commitment to offer links between the two regions”.
The crew who piloted the first flight also shared how much the route means to them, with Joel Bryant, Captain for Skybus, stating “there are many things I enjoy about flying from Newquay, from the familiar faces who always provide us with a warm welcome to the incredible views that can be seen as we fly down the North Cornwall coast.”
Debi Peskett, Skybus First Officer, added: “The thing I love most about serving Newquay as a route has got to be the spectacular views of the Cornwall coastline. The route takes us all the way down the north coast providing our customers with incredible views of beautiful coves and beaches, before travelling out over to the Isles of Scilly. Many customers comment on how lovely the flight is, stating that we have the best job in the world! I definitely agree!”
On the first flight passengers were greeted with bunches of scented narcissi as they landed into St Mary’s, a local flower grown on St Martin’s by Churchtown Flowers. They were received with warmth as this small gesture celebrated the return of the much-loved route.
Skybus flights will depart from Cornwall Airport Newquay every Monday, Friday, and Saturday up until 19th October 2024. To book, visit the Isles of Scilly Travel website.
