The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has announced that it will be seeking applications for a new-look Steamship Advisory Board.

The Steamship Advisory Board (SAB) was formed in 2017, giving Isles of Scilly residents the opportunity to provide constructive feedback on the Group’s services and views on future plans.

The Group is entering a new phase in its 104-year history and will be welcoming applications from St Mary’s and off-island residents for the new look advisory board which will consist of six members.

It will be chaired by the Steamship Group’s new island-based Non-Executive Director, Andrew Walder, and will be attended by Executive Directors and Senior Management. Meetings will be held quarterly.

The advisory board will continue to provide constructive feedback and views but will be smaller, to ensure that subjects are debated in a thorough yet timely manner. Transportation of both passengers and freight by air and sea will be recurring agenda items but there will also be opportunities to discuss the new vessels project and other Steamship Group plans which are in the process of being delivered.

The Group expects meetings to take place in St Mary’s, but there will also be the opportunity for meetings to be held in Penzance, with visits to key infrastructure facilities such as Penzance Quay and Land’s End Airport, to view other non-customer facing parts of the Group’s operation. Expenses will be covered for transport.

As a way of saying thank you for participating, the Steamship Group will be gifting an annual allocation of complimentary Skybus tickets and Scillonian III tickets to each successfully appointed applicant.

For any island resident interested in becoming a Steamship Advisory Board member, applicants should send a letter of no more than two sides of A4 to Sian Matthews (smatthews@issg.co.uk) setting out their interest and why they would be suitable for this exciting role.
