Are you ready to be whisked out of the ordinary – to sail away from your workload and soar out of the every day? Walk Scilly Week is back from the 11th-17th April, and it’s an extraordinary opportunity to explore the Isles of Scilly on foot, accompanied by the people who know the islands best…
Featuring twenty-five different walks, foraging sessions and more, Walk Scilly is a chance to learn about Scilly’s heritage and wildlife, while exploring the idyllic coastline and beaches.
Your week of adventure begins with a warm welcome from us here at Isles of Scilly Travel – and we really know how to get you into the spirit of things. Whether you set sail looking out for dolphins from the deck of the Scillonian III passenger ferry, or touch down on the islands having experienced their natural beauty from above, you’ll arrive eager to start exploring all that Scilly has to offer.
And, once we’ve piqued your interest in air and sea, St Agnes islanders Bob Dawson and John Peacock have created just the walk to continue your voyage of discovery….
St Agnes – Land, Air and Sea is a guided walk around St Agnes followed by a boat tour of Annet. Its aim is to teach visitors all about the Seabird Recovery Project, which is helping to protect Scilly’s incredible variety of birds for future generations to see.
Bob Dawson will start the day with a tour of St.Agnes and its surrounding coastline, highlighting the variety of wildlife on land and in the air. The walk is peppered with beautiful views of the beaches and coastline. You’ll wander through a meadow filled with chamomile, peer up at the iconic lighthouse and gaze out across azure waters to the uninhabited island of Samson and the Norrad Rocks. You’ll seek out fulmars, cormorants and listen out for the cry of a kittiwake (a little tip, it sounds just like it’s saying its name!). You’ll learn about two special seabirds, the Manx shearwater (‘the bird that scared Vikings’) and the diminutive storm petrel.
If it’s sunny, there will be a pause at Troy town Farm Dairy for a tub of their delicious farm ice cream. Walkers can also enjoy a pasty lunch at The Turks Head (the most south-westerly pub in Britain)*.
In the afternoon you’ll have an opportunity to put your feet up, as John Peacock will take you out to sea on board his boat The Spirit of St Agnes. You’ll sail around the uninhabited island of Annet on the lookout for a raft of shags, puffins, dolphins and the colony of friendly Atlantic grey seals that live out on the Western Rocks. Be sure to pack a camera!
