The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has appointed local transport industry expert Mark Howarth to its board as a non-executive director.
Mark Howarth brings to the board a wealth of transport knowledge and experience, both from his current position as Managing Director of bus company Western Greyhound, and from a number of voluntary positions he holds within the industry.
As Chair of the South West region of the Confederation for Passenger Transport and as a Director of South West Smartcard Applications, Mark will bring to the board an overview of the regional travel industry, as well as specific expertise in aviation and ferry travel gained as Chairman of the Newquay Airport Consultative Forum and through involvement with the King Harry Ferry.
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company operates the only transport links to and from the islands – the Scillonian III passenger ferry, Gry Maritha freight ship and Skybus airline. The company also owns and operates Land’s End Airport and Penzance Dry Dock.
Andrew May, Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company said: “The Board’s Nomination Committee undertook a thoroughly comprehensive and detailed process during which they saw a number of candidates, all of whom would have been a real asset to the Group. Mark stood out more because, in our view, his particular skills and experience complement those already on the Board to produce a close fit for the criteria we have identified as being appropriate at this time in our development.
“Mark’s great experience in the transport sector, particularly his focus on the changing needs of his customers, will be of great benefit to our Group. On behalf of my colleagues it gives me pleasure to welcome Mark on to the Board of Directors.”
